I eat a lot of salads. I like green leafy veggies, and I know they are good for me. In the summer, though, sometimes I prefer to drink my greens. A cool concoction of leafy greens and frozen fruit is quite refreshing, and ultra healthy. Here are a few tips that I’ve learned by experimenting in my kitchen:

1. A vitamix truly makes it easier to liquefy green leafy veggies such as spinach, kale, chard or collard greens.  I’ve heard good things about BlendTec, but don’t have any first hand experience to share.

2. Liquefy the greens with plant milk and water before adding in frozen fruit. I’ve tried putting in everything all together, and the greens don’t always get all blended, even with the high speed vitamix. Believe me, you want a refreshing drink, not pieces of leaves in your drink.

3. If you are feeding these to children, give them goofy names so they don’t dwell on the green color of the drink. Maybe call them Green Lantern smoothies. Another option is to use an opaque cup with a cover and a straw so they can’t see it. My little guy didn’t know I was putting spinach in his smoothies till he saw me add it to the blender one day. After I told him that he’d been drinking it that way for several months already, he wanted to help put the greens in the blender.

Enjoy! and please let me know which fruits/greens you like best.

Love,
Audrey
