Q&A What is the Best Cardio Exercise to Do?

The best cardio is the one that you like to do.  When it becomes a dreaded chore, you are less likely to do it.  An easy do-anywhere cardio is walking.  You don’t need any special equipment to go for a walk.  Make it fun, and the time will fly by, and you might even find yourself looking forward to your next workout.  Be creative.  If you don’t have a gym membership, and the weather is inclement, put on some fast-paced music and dance around the house.  Climbing stairs is an excellent workout too.

Personally, I like to run.  But that wasn’t always the case.  I used to have exercise-induced asthma and I thought running was absolute torture.  When I made changes to my diet, the asthma went into remission, and I found I really enjoyed running.  But again, I had to start with walking, and then mixed in a few running intervals.  Going too fast, too soon, is more likely to lead to burn-out than a runner’s high.

Whatever it is that you choose, enjoy it.  That’s the secret to sticking with it.
