I have no excuses. I was a slug all winter. I did not exercise. I couldn’t even tell you why. Isaac Newton was right though, a body at rest tends to stay at rest, and I’m determined to make mine a body in motion again.
I even thought I’d jump start my exercise this February, when we were in Florida. The weather was great, and I actually like running when it’s hot out. My first morning there, I was so excited to be outside, in shorts, a tank, and no parka that I was a bit too ambitious. I had the iPhone loaded with tunes and I was determined to go and run for an hour.
On the plus side, I didn’t get lost. But it sucked! It sucked big time. I hated every minute of it, and I quickly realized that I’d need to change my plan if I was going to get outside and exercise every day as planned. And I’m the trainer, right? I had to get back into it the smart way. Brisk walking with intervals of running. And again, I was too cool for the program, so my second day out, my intervals was long and close together. And I didn’t hate it as much as the first day, but it wasn’t fun. And I tell my clients all the time, the best exercises to lose weight and stay fit are THE ONES THAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY DO. So I had to shorten my run periods and start over again. Almost like working on your master’s program and getting sent back to kindergarten.
Now that spring is here, I’m walking more than running, but I know I’ll be running nonstop before summer gets here. And that keeps me coming back for the next workout!
